DENTAL DANGER

Statistically, 30% to 40% of people suffer from periodontitis, which is also one of the most common causes of tooth loss in adults.

Periodontitis & GingivitIs

Periodontitis always develops from gingivitis, which damages the dental tissue and thus allows bacteria to penetrate deep into the jaw.

CONTROL CHECKUP

Periodontal disease is initially painless and asymptomatic, a follow-up examination every 6 months is recommended to keep it monitored.

Periodontology is a branch of dental medicine that deals with the health of the supporting structures of the teeth (periodontium). The periodontium consists of the gums, bones and fibers that connect the tooth to the bone (periodontal ligament).

Our polyclinic provides a professional and quality service for the treatment of all problems related to the supporting structures of the teeth. Periodontal therapy is performed by dr.med.dent. Kristina Đurkan, periodontology specialist.

Conscientious and regular maintenance of oral hygiene reduces the risk of periodontal disease. This means effectively removing dental plaque by brushing properly, flossing and rinsing water.

If no subjective disturbances are present, a check-up every 6 months is recommended. During this visit, if necessary, professional ultrasonic cleaning of soft and hard dental plaque is conducted together with polishing of teeth and patient is educated on how to brush the teeth properly.

Calculus needs to be cleaned on average twice a year, individual need for tartar removal may be more frequent.

Periodontal disease is initially painless and asymptomatic. Be sure to contact us if you notice bleeding and swelling of the gums, greater mobility of individual teeth, constant bad breath and taste, and a change in the ratio of upper and lower teeth in the jaw.

Gingivitis is inflammation that affects the gums. Plaque on teeth (plaque and tartar) is rich in bacteria that create toxins responsible for inflammation. If we do not remove them regularly, the gums become vulnerable, swollen, painful and bleed when brushed. This is a sign that you should visit a periodontist. Untreated gingivitis can progress to a much more serious condition – periodontitis.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammation that affects the deeper structures of the supporting apparatus of the tooth. By destroying the bones and fibers, which connect the tooth to the bone, pockets are created. These nooks and crannies, full of bacteria, pose a great risk for permanent tooth loss.

Periodontal surgery is necessary when conservative treatment methods do not give results. Then we use procedures such as:

  • Lobe surgery – is a small operation that we use in deeper pockets, to scrape and polish the root surface under eye control.
  • Regenerative surgery – regenerative methods can fill in the lost parts of the supporting structures of the teeth and encourage better healing, and it includes: the use of bone and bone replacement materials, the use of membranes – guided tissue regeneration, the use of biologically active preparations (Emdogain).
  • Mucogingival plastic surgery – the goal is to stop the retraction of the gums, cover the bare tooth neck (recession), expand the layer of the fixing gingiva, deepen the vestibule, remove the folds of mucous membrane (frenulum) that pull the gums in the smile zone.
  • Preservation of the alveolus after tooth extraction – procedures by which we fill in the defects that occur after tooth extraction in the smile zone.
