FUNCTIONAL AESTHETICS

We use all types of state-of-the-art brackets and materials in our braces to make the therapy effective, fast and of the highest aesthetic standard.

NO AGE LIMIT

Over more than three decades of professional work, we successfully treated a large number of patients aged 60, 70 and even over 80 years of age.

The most effective and most common way of correcting orthodontic anomalies in the world is fixed orthodontic therapy. It is performed exclusively by dentists, orthodontics specialists, under the guidance of prof.dr.sc. Martina Šlaj.

Today, with the most modern dental braces, which meet the highest aesthetic standards, we can solve almost every problem and give the patient the smile he has always wanted. The beautiful design and invisibility of aesthetic brackets make it easy for patients of all ages and occupations to wear them.

Polyclinic Šlaj-Anić team of experts conducts orthodontic therapy with all types of brackets (selfligating, ie self-binding, classic, aesthetic, metal, lingual or labial), depending on patient’s indications because we cannot get the desired effect with all types of brackets. The success of the orthodontic therapy is the most important guide when choosing brackets.

Orthodontic therapy does not know the age limit for correcting tooth and jaw irregularities, during 30 years of work we have successfully treated patients of all ages.

In addition to a beautiful smile, that is an unquestionable result of orthodontic therapy, improper tooth position can often lead to other problems. Sometimes it is difficult to maintain oral hygiene (in case of tooth compaction), so caries is more frequent, it can also lead to inflammation of the gums, periodontal problems and many other health issues.

The fixed orthodontic braces consist of brackets, tubes and wires. Brackets can be aesthetic: plastic, composite, ceramic or sapphire. They are transparent and barely visible on the tooth, and are glued to its surface with special cement that does not damage it. Today we avoid the use of plastic materials because they change color, bend, and crack. Sapphire lbrackets are the most common choice if aesthetic orthodontic therapy is to be performed. In addition to aesthetic brackets there are also metal brackets, which in USA are used in 90% of all cases. In Croatia aesthetic brackets are more acceptable to patients. The wires used in the orthodontic therapy are a high-tech product and with brackets enable the precise movement of teeth by using very mild, biologically acceptable force.

The average duration of orthodontic treatment is about 18 to 24 months, although in severe cases it can be slightly longer.

The result of wearing fixed orthodontic braces should be the combination of best possible function combined with the best possible aesthetics. This should be achieved in natural way without teeth being filed down or artificial restorations being applied. Of course, in adult patients, this treatment can only be part of the overall treatment, which allows later procedures to be of better quality and aesthetics.

After the removal of fixed orthodontic braces there is a possibility of teeth moving again, which disrupts the results achieved by the orthodontic treatment. To prevent this from happening, today we use transparent mobile retention (devices that we make from special foils), and patients wear them for a longer period of time after the removal of fixed orthodontic braces. We often recommend to patients the so-called fixed retention, which is glued to the inside of the teeth, is not visible, does not interfere with eating and speech, and guarantees the stability of the results achieved by fixed orthodontic braces.

It is definitely necessary to pay special attention to maintaining hygiene during the orthodontic treatment. There is a large number of different brushes on the market today , some are specifically designed for use by orthodontic patients. We recommend that our patients use soft toothbrushes, interdental brushes, and oral irrigators.
